Local tips

  • Filling an entire plate with cold bread-top pintxos at the first bar—in Donostia, order 1–2 hot specialty pintxos written on the chalkboard with a small zurito (half-beer) or Txakoli, then move to the next bar.
  • Paying upfront before eating—in traditional Parte Vieja bars you order at the counter, keep track of everything you ate and drank, and settle honestly when leaving.
  • Forgetting a compact windproof umbrella—the green Basque coast receives refreshing Atlantic showers even in summer.
